Songs and Scenes is a weekly blog review of songs, readings and prayers featured in The Crossing’s Sunday liturgy. The Crossing’s Multimedia Director, Gerik Parmele, provided photos to offer a glimpse into Sunday morning life with The Crossing the Sunday following an ice storm in Columbia. This morning’s service was planned and led by David Cover. You’ll also find links in the song titles that will allow you to purchase recorded versions of the songs when available.

1. Come Ye Sinners – Words: Joseph Hart (1759), Music: Christine Cover and Greg Wiele, Arrangement: The Crossing Music

Come, ye sinners, poor and needy,
Weak and wounded, sick and sore;
Jesus ready stands to save you,
Full of pity, love and power.

On the bloody Cross behold Him,
Sinner, will this not suffice,
Lo! the incarnate God ascended,
Pleads His perfect sacrifice.

2. Holy, Holy, Holy (Lord, God Almighty) – Words by Reginald Heber (1783-1826), Music: Nicaea, John B. Dykes (1861)

Holy, Holy, Holy! though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see:
Only Thou art holy, there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in power, in love, and purity..

3. Rock of Ages – Words: Augustus M. Toplady (1776), Contemporary chorus by Page CXVI (2009). Arrangement by Ascend the Hill

Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy wounded side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure;
Save from wrath and make me pure.

4. It is Finished by Dustin Kensrue

There’s no sacrifice to offer,
there’s no penance to complete;
Freely drink of living water,
without money come and feast.

It is finished! He has done it!
let your weary heart rejoice.
Our redemption is accomplished
raise a shout with ragged voice.

5. Psalm 62 (My Soul Finds Rest) by Stuart Townend and Aaron Keyes

My soul find rest in God alone,
my Rock and my salvation,
a fortress strong against my foes,
and I will not be shaken.
Though lips may bless and hearts may curse,
and lies like arrows pierce me,
I’ll fix my heart on righteousness,
I’ll look to Him who hears me.

6. Take My Life – Words: Frances R. Havergal (1874), Music and additional lyrics: Chris Tomlin and Louie Giglio, Arrangement: The Crossing Music

Take my life and let it be
consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days,
let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Take my hands and let them move
at the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
swift and beautiful for Thee.
