Songs-and-Scenes-Banner B

Songs and Scenes is a weekly blog review of songs, readings and prayers featured in The Crossing’s Sunday morning liturgy. You’ll find links in the song titles that will allow you to purchase recorded versions of the songs when available.

The Crossing Music recently released “Liturgy of the Seasons–Volume 3: Spring’s Ardor”; a new E.P. featuring “Trees Will Clap”. A song that is a Crossing favorite. Check it out on C.D. or digital download at crossingsongs.com. Vinyl is coming soon.

1. Call to Worship: Based on Isaiah 60:1-2, 19-20, 22

“Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.

See, darkness covers the earth
and thick darkness is over the peoples,
but the LORD rises upon you
and his glory appears over you.

for the LORD will be our everlasting light,
and our God will be our glory.
the Lord will be our everlasting light,
and our days of sorrow will end.

I am the Lord;
in its time I will do this swiftly.”

2. Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery by Matt Papa, Matt Boswell, and Michael Bleeker

Come behold the wondrous mystery
In the dawning of the King
He the theme of heaven’s praises
Robed in frail humanity

In our longing, in our darkness
Now the light of life has come
Look to Christ, who condescended
Took on flesh to ransom us

3. The Christ, Our Light by Martin Reardon

When all was dark and without dawn
You gave us Light, you sent your Son.
The Christ, the Christ, He shines, He shines
to take all dark away, away.

4. Reading: Based on Psalm 107:1-2, 6, 8-11, 14-15

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
     his love endures forever.

Let the redeemed of the LORD tell their story—
We cried out to the LORD in our trouble,
and he delivered us from our distress.

Let us give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for us,
for he satisfies the thirsty
and fills the hungry with good things.

We sat in darkness, in utter darkness,
     prisoners suffering
because we rebelled against God’s commands
and despised the plans of the Most High.
Then we cried to the LORD in our trouble,
and he saved us from our distress.

He brought us out of darkness, the utter darkness,
     and broke away our chains.
Let us give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love.

5. Gloria by Chad Gardner

O taste and see
that the Lord is good
all you people, all you saints,
all you children of the King.

Gloria!, Gloria!, Gloria!, Gloria!

6. Made Alive by Brian Eichelberger and David Bolen

I once was dead in sin alone and hopeless,
A child of wrath I walked condemned in darkness,
but your mercy brought new life
And in your love and kindness,
Raised me up with Christ and made me righteous.

You have bought me back with the riches of
Your amazing grace and relentless love.
I’m made alive forever, with you, life forever
by your grace I’m saved, by your grace I’m saved.

7. Christ is Risen by Matt Maher and Mia Fieldes

O death, where is your sting?
O hell, where is your victory?
O church, come stand in the light;
Our God is not dead He’s alive,
He’s alive!

Christ is risen from the dead
trampling over death by death.
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave.
